Fall 2026 College of Science Student Orientation Advising

College of Science Student Success Center (CoS-SSC) hosts Sparta Camp (Frosh Orientation advising) and Spartan Experience for Transfers (SET) group orientation advising for newly admitted students during their scheduled orientation.

Sparta Camp Orientation Advising

Before we meet you during Sparta Camp Day 2, we recommends the following tasks be completed at least 1 week before scheduled Sparta Camp to avoid enrollment delays

  1. Accept the CoS SSC Fall 2026 Orientation Canvas Course. Students must log in to their SJSU Canvas account to view and accept this invitation.
  2. Review your Next Steps Portal and complete all outstanding tasks
  3. Complete Spartan Link Online Orientation Module
  4. Complete the Precalculus Proficiency Assessment (PPA) and/or submit any external credit (official transcripts and/or AP/IB official scores, if available to you) directly to SJSU for processing, posting, and approval.
    1. Review My SJSU (Peoplesoft) messages for your PPA To Do item sent May 18, 2026
  5. Complete the Reflection on College Writing (RCW) by your orientation deadline
  6. Review your MySJSU Messages and SJSU email inbox for any additional tasks to complete before Sparta Camp Orientation

Spartan Experience for Transfers (SET) Orientation Advising

Before we meet you at SET orientation, we recommend the following tasks be completed at least 1 week before your orientation: 

  1. Accept and review the CoS SSC Fall 2026 Orientation Canvas course. Students must log in to their SJSU Canvas account to view and accept this invitation.
  2. Review your Next Steps Portal and complete all outstanding tasks
  3. Complete Spartan Link Online Orientation Module
  4. Review your MySJSU Messages and SJSU email inbox for any additional tasks to complete before Sparta Camp Orientation

Post-Orientation Advising

Post Orientation Academic Advising appointments are for students who have completed their Summer 2026 Orientation. Appointments can be scheduled through Spartan Connect.

Appointments scheduled before SET Orientation completion will be cancelled.

Notice to all students:

CoS-SSC Advising will be limited if your transfer credit report is not complete and accurate. If you are completing a course during the summer, you are required to send official transcripts with final grades to SJSU for approval, processing, and posting. 

SJSU Articulation Agreements must be followed for General Education and/or Major Course completion at SJSU.

Students who have completed courses at an institution that does not meet SJSU Articulation Agreements can petition with Undergraduate Education for General Education or College of Science for Major Course completion upon transferring their credits. Consult with CoS-SSC advisor for more information.

Change of Major Interest

Students cannot pursue a change of major during orientation.

Students will be required to meet all change of major requirements, including completion of one semester of coursework at SJSU, to be eligible to submit an application. Submission of an application does not guarantee admittance. Explore change of major requirements on our Change of Major webpages.
